What is the normal size of a Prostate?
When men grow older, their prostate gets larger. At forty years of age, it will change from the size of a walnut to that of an apricot. During forty years of age, they grow into a size similar to that of a lemon.
It partly surrounds the urethra hence the enlarged prostate will pressurize the tube. This will result in problems while you are urinating. Normally, these problems become more prominent when you are over fifty years old.
The enlarged prostate is also referred to as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. This means enlargement or swelling of the prostate. Some symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate are as follows.
- Pain during ejaculation.
- Burning sensation or pain while urinating.
- Waking during the night to go to the toilet.
- Blood in the urine.
- Pain after ejaculation.
Who will have an enlarged prostate?
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is common as well as preventable. Family history and age can increase your risk of having it.
- Eight of ten men are at risk of developing an enlarged prostate.
- Thirty percent will find it bothersome.
- More than ninety percent of men over eighty-five years of age will have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.
